BuildBuild is a series of large scale prints featuring montaged photographic elements. It explores the exponential growth my city is undergoing, many thousands adding themselves to the number of inhabitants each year. The demand for services, infrastructure and housing to meet this constant growth in population is immense.
As we attempt to keep up, the aesthetic of construction features strongly in our urban landscape and ever spreading fringes. I have felt compelled to explore its visual language as I find myself drawn to the stark geometry of these raw, skeletal, often intricate innards of architecture.
I have captured detailed and expansive views in and around various construction sites, finding myself in awe of the sheer volume of materials, labour and planning which come together to establish the spaces we occupy and inhabit.
My method of post-production montage then treats these captured elements as abstract form. I have carefully collected, combined and layered them as I seek harmonious visual connection. The process is a build in and of itself, speaking broadly of the construction we are surrounded by rather than a specific site.
